Teaching Philosophy

My favorite part of teaching music is that so many of the skills we acquire when learning an instrument cross over into most other parts of our lives.  Discipline, perseverance, patience, artistry, accuracy, grit, logic – they are all principles that we try to master in music as well as lifelong goals in our every day activities.

In addition, as technology becomes increasingly detailed, scientists are now realizing that no one activity lights up and connects different parts of the brain in quite the same way as playing an instrument.  The artistic element, motor function, and mathematical parts of the brain all come together when one focuses and excels in playing a musical instrument.  What a wonderful advantage this can be, at any age!

I currently offer private piano, voice, and theory lessons.  I teach lessons in my home in Newton, or may come to your home for a travel fee of $5/mile.

My lesson pricing is as follows:

30-min lessons — $40

45-min lessons – $50

60-min lessons – $60
